Owning a ferret is VERY expensive. Not so much the food and bedding, but they get awful diseases and veterinary care is VERY expensive because they are considered to be exotic animals. I should know because I have had a total of 21 ferrets over the years.

the first guys has it pretty much covered, just get a paper shredder and shred newspaper that has soy ink… 8 in 1 brand is about 15 for a 30 lb bag of food… yesterdays news is a good litter if you want to use actual litter its just processed newspaper for 15 for a 30lbs bag…
