Symptoms of Ferret Disease

The tumors of the islet cells are the insulin-secreting cells in the pancreas. Its main effect is to reduce blood sugar. Insulinoma, as it is called,shows the following symptoms:

* Lethargy
* Loss of appetite
* Wobbly walk
* Pawing at the mouth
In extreme cases, episodes of blankness or convulsions can occur.

This is in ferrets over the age of three. The overproduction of insulin by the pancreatic islet cells results in hypoglycemia. The clinical signs are attributable to hypoglycemic episodes: subsequent limb weakness, ataxia, hyper salivation, increasing the number of beds, eyes glass or stupor appearance. Seizures are seen in advanced cases.

Lymphosarcoma or Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system. There are two main types of this cancer are the classics or juvenile. The classic lymphoma occurs in older ferrets and juvenile comes at a very young. Classic lymphosarcoma causes enlarged lymph nodes and irregularities in blood count. There are no outward signs until the ferret disease has progressed. Minor lymphoma affects ferrets under fourteen months and not causes enlarged lymph nodes, but hits hard and fats.

Splenomegaly is a ferret disease in which the spleen increases and there is a swelling in the upper abdomen. Sometimes the enlarged spleen does not cause damage or disruption to ferret and, therefore, can be as it is. However, if the ferret shows signs of lethargy, lack of appetite and decreased activity then the spleen must be removed immediately.

The infection by Helicobacter mutilate is the most common of all ferret disease. It is a bacterial infection of the lining of the stomach. Ferrets older people with long-standing infections can develop gastric problems due to the bacteria its ability to reduce acid production in the stomach. Symptoms include repeated vomiting, signs of gastric ulcer and lack of appetite.

Despite ferrets may seem good, sometimes, could be suffering from various ferret diseases. Regular checkups by a veterinarian are required to keep your pet healthy and happy for the coming years.

Matilda is 4 years old. She has been very healthy but for the last month she has been shedding a lot. Her tail is almolst bald and her lower body is doing the same thing. I can even see her skin, please help me!!!
I give her vitamins and feed her good. She has been the best pet I ever had.
